It was quite a relief to leave Colorado for good. I had been making some short trips around the state - down to my dad´s cabin under the Sangre de Cristos, over to Dobb´s pad for some snowboarding, out to Utah to drop off my cats and talk business with Ed, out to Bangkok to see how my mom´s lifestyle is (massages and cheap thrills don´t get old) - but I finally felt that my long-planned dream to head down to South America was finally being realized. Little did I know my stay in DC was going to last a bit longer than planned. It turns out that Buenos Aires is a popular destination for travelers in the winter. As many of you know, I fly on a seat-available basis, and every flight was overbooked by around 20 seats.
No worries, I had never been to DC and enjoyed every minute of it. Alina took me around the city to all the important tourist spots. I had a blast spending countless hours checking out the Smithsonian's many Art museums.
It is amazing how time flies while looking at art, when you are an Art History major. Alina was extremely patient and sweet to look at all of the canvases with splashes of paint or blocks of colors on them for five or so hours. (más o menos) Later, we breezed through the aerospace and natural history museums pretty quickly, but spent PLENTY of time at the national gallery. I was ready to apply for a job there, Alina was ready to shoot herself. Nah nah nah, I think she enjoyed it some. (eh?) Otherwise, in DC I checked out the classic monuments (single-finger salute to the White House) and checked out some DC nightlife. Very nice.
I cannot say enough about Alina´s parents. They cooked up some amazing food for me, showed me pictures and art from all over the world, her mom took us out to lunch, and generally made me feel like I could move in with them. If I get that job, maybe I will . . .
Alina's roomates Rosy and EJ were equally welcoming, as were the rest of her friends, Margerie, Meagan, et al. I kind of made myself a fourth roomate and adopted Rosy´s dog Dodger, but they didn´t mind (at least they didn´t seem to . . . ) Overall, DC kicked ass. . . I was pretty sad to leave, I thought about stowing Dodger in my massive backpack.
Oh yea, I appreciate the trips to the Airport Alina and EJ!
